Driver Application Requirements (Niagara Region)

Document Requirements

Vehicle Requirements

  • Vehicle’s model must be 10 years or newer 
  • 4 doors
  • 5-8 seats, including the driver’s
  • Ontario license plate
  • Snow or all-weather tires from Dec. 1 to April 30

Application Steps

  • Start an application – Apply to drive with Zoom
  • Upload your documents – Take photos of each document below and upload them to your Zoom account.
    • Safety Standards Certificate (SSC)
      • Drivers are required to upload a Safety Standards Certificate (SSC). It must match the vehicle on file and be no more than 36 days old. Keep a copy of your SSC in the vehicle while driving on the Zoom platform.
    • Driver’s license
      • Drivers are required to have a valid Class G or higher Ontario driver’s license for at least one year. A temporary license is acceptable, but be sure to upload your permanent copy when you receive it.
    • Vehicle registration
      • Drivers are required to upload a copy of their vehicle registration.
    • Personal vehicle insurance
      • Drivers are required to have personal vehicle insurance.
    • Driver photo
      • Zoom requires a photo of all drivers. Your driver photo is a passenger’s first impression of you when they request a ride.
    • Proof of work eligibility
      • You must upload one of the following documents as proof of work eligibility:
        • Passport
        • Residency card
        • Birth certificate
        • Citizenship card
        • Work permit
  • Complete Your Background Check
    • Zoom’s drivers must obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check from Niagara Regional Police Headquarters @ 5700 Valley Way Niagara Falls ON 
  • TNC Driver’s License
    • Zoom drivers in the Niagara Region are required to obtain a Transportation Network Company (TNC) driver’s license. Drivers who meet the Region’s requirements will be issued a TNC driver’s license and be approved to drive on Zoom’s platform.
    • A one-year TNC driver’s license costs $0. When your TNC expires, you’ll be responsible for renewing it.
    • If you add a new or additional vehicle to your driver profile, you’ll be responsible for sharing that information with Niagara Region. Simply bring your new vehicle documents to the Region office to update your information.

  • Become Approved
    • Zoom will notify you when you’ve been approved as a driver. Until then, you can check your email for updates.
    • You must be at least 25 years old and comply with any provincial and local requirements.
  • Zoom Decals can be picked up from our main office:
    • Drivers are required to display the Zoom emblem while in driver mode. It helps passengers and law enforcement identify your vehicle.
    • The Zoom emblem should be displayed in the lower corner of your front and rear windshield on the passenger side every time you enter driver mode. If you drive in the Niagara Region, be sure to display your Zoom emblem on your passenger side rear window, as required by local regulations.
  • HST account number: Zoom drivers in Canada are required to register for, and remit, harmonized sales tax (HST).
